Like most moms, there are two places I can get some peace and quiet and allow my mind to wander. The first is in the car… when I’m alone, obviously. It’s not abnormal for me to arrive at a destination having no idea how I got there. I should probably be concerned by this. Typically, though, I’m rather impressed by my robot-like skills. People pay big money to have a car that drives itself. Potential side job? I’ll have to think about that one…
The second place for peaceful pondering is in the shower. I write 97% of all blog posts in the shower. I also having meaningful conversations with my husband, work out any conflicts with friends and family and sing an awesome version of “We Are Never Getting Back Together” in there as well. What can I say? I’m a multitasker.
Unfortunately, I don’t get to drive alone much these days as the boys are home for the summer and with me what feels like every waking moment; and my shower schedule is less than consistent. Don’t judge me. However, I discovered a third Happy Place where my thoughts can roam free… The Nail Place.
I only get a pedicure 2-3 times a year. (A travesty according to several friends who have pointed out my not-oh-so-pretty nails with a, “Girl, you gotta get them things painted!”) But when I am sitting with my tootsies soaking, my mind can wander quite easily as I immerse myself in relaxation and toxic fumes coming from the fiberglass fills the women around me are getting.
Lucky for me (and anyone who has to stare at my feet) I was able to get in for a pedicure the week before our family vacation. The results: 10 purrrrty toes and 28 minutes of free-flowing thoughts. Brace yourselves…

Let’s be clear here… My feet looking NOTHING like these pretty ones. And the only flowers involved in my pedicures are the tiny ones I pay $3 to have added. |
Thanks to Penny at Mom Rants and Comfy Pants for letting me share my bunny trail thoughts.
That’s just my normal.
pedicures are the best. esp when you can sit in a massage chair as you get it. 😀
I’ve definitely zoned out while driving and not remembered the trip! Glad I’m not alone 🙂
Every week I say, “This is the week I’m gonna make it to the nail salon,” & of course it never is. Like you, I go maybe 3 times a year. But ever since becoming a mother, I finally see why women love going to the salon so much. I should start telling my husband it takes 2 hour to get my toe nails polished.
Vicky, thanks so much for contributing. I have never had a pedicure in my life and now I’m pretty sure I’ll never get one. You are so funny!!
