It’s Valentine’s Day- Feel the love!

February 14, 2013 By Vicky 24 Comments

2013 has been The Year of the Blog.  I’m pretty sure that was option #2 on the Chinese Calendar just behind Year of the Snake, but lost by a mere handful of votes.  See? Every vote counts.

Anyway, it has been The Year of the Blog for me because I have started following some awesome blogs- some newbies, some seasoned and professional writers.  Not only have I spit coffee (or margaritas) on my laptop screen but I have also learned what good writing looks like and am slowly but surely learning to hone my craft a bit- you can thank me later.

If you have time today, go visit a few of them.  Not only will you laugh your socks off (or spew coffee out your nose) but you’ll feel a bit more “normal” when you see that we are all living similarly insane yet blessed lives.  I’ve put some links down below to a few you might like.

Because I recognize talent when I see it and want to become a better person by modeling their behavior am a sheep who follows without question, I saw that most of my new Bloggy Friends are posting Valentine’s Day messages today.  Gotta be honest, I wasn’t planning on doing one.  I think you read enough about my trips to Target for groceries, household items and negligees.  But, again, I’m a sheep-like young woman *coughcough* so I figured I should jump on this bandwagon.

Sadly, though, I have nothing to say.  As I type this I have one child on Day #2 of Amoxicillin for Strep and the other laying in my bed with a constant flood of clear snot draining from his nose.  I don’t think we will be rallying for a last minute trip to Target for panties.  I could probably use a red Sharpie to color some toilet paper, do some ninja-origami-like maneuvering and tie it around myself if I put my mind to it.  I mean does Hubs really need anything but ME as a Valentine’s Day gift? I think not.

Although today I don’t have much to illustrate my love other than some pink suspension oral medication from our pediatrician and a mountain of Kleenex, I have been full of the love in the past.  So, I will do 3 things with this post:
1. Link you to past love posts I’ve written
2. Link you to authors who have non-contagious love to share today
3. Give you a glimpse of the VDay love I received from the kids… aside from germs

Past Posts ‘o Love by Yours Truly:
This one has nakedness
This one is kinda naughty
This one’s really Knotty
Food can be sexy
OK, this one is kinda sweet and lovey
Last year’s VDay post
A Nooner- need I say more?

So those are a just a few to keep you entertained as you sit and day dream about your Other Half and pine away the hours until he or she comes home so you can have a quiet, candlelit dinner and talk about your feelings for one another.  Or… You can read them while you avoid working because who really wants to work on a holiday, right?

But before I leave you, I want to share the love Hubs and I received this morning.

The card the boys made for Hubs:

Sweet, right? I listened to the boys work together downstairs while they wrote this for him.  It was pretty cute as they came up with the perfect wording.  There’s a lot of love and gratitude and cuteness oozing out of this little note.  And it has 2 lollipops taped to the bottom.  So cute!

Here’s the card I got.  They each gave me the same one because they made it at church.  They did a great job of hiding it.  I had no idea! My card…

In case you can’t read it because you’re old and need bifocals like me:
“That which enters the mouth doesn’t defile the man;
but that which proceeds out of the mouth, that defiles the man.”
Um, what? A little Mom Shaming with my lollipops.  Don’t get me wrong, my church ROCKS!! My kids are learning amazing things and have grown emotionally, spiritually and personally.  They own their faith and live it.  But there wasn’t another verse that could have been used for an acrostic poem spelling MOM? Toss me a Proverbs 31 or a Fruit of the Spirit, would ya? Pretty hysterical!
So, Happy Valentine’s Day readers! I hope you spend the day laughing, loving and remembering all the things that bring you joy.  I know I will.
It’s Valentine’s Day! Feel the love!
That’s just my normal.
And for a great laugh and some good readn’:
Sisterhood of Sensible Moms
Cloudy with a Chance of Wine
WhenCrazyMeetsExhaustion
Erin the Irish Mama
Dysfunction Junction
Just Mildly Medicated

And some giggle-snorts for ya:

Oh how I can relate. Not feeling very VDay motivated this year, actually in many years. I have a kid with the stomach flew who has kept me up for two nights. I don’t care what day it is. All I want is sleep! LOL

Thanks for mentioning my blog. I don’t usually fall into the “funny” category, accept when my kids are the inspiration of funny, but appreciate the shout out anyway.

    Hugs to you!

Oh no! Stomach flu!? Yuck! I’m so sorry friend. And it seems to be a long one for you guys. Praying for a quick recovery today and a nap for all of you. Rest up and you can give your family air high-fives to avoid spreading germs;)

Hope it’s ok that you’re on my blog roll? If not I totally understand. Not sure if you’d prefer to be linked to more faith-based or similar subject matter. No pressure!!

Oh feel better! I had the flu a few weeks ago and was in bed for 2 days straight. It’s such a pain getting sick – who has time for that! But thank you for the shout out and I hope that you have speedy recovery!!!!!

Love the cards. I can’t wait until the boys start coming up with their own. Right now my husband usually has them sign a hallmark card while I am standing right next to them! LOL. Feel better!!!!

      Erin,
Thanks for stopping by and I’m glad you’re ok with the link! When I had one child I started a new tradition where I wrote a letter to each of the people in my family- 2 year old and Hubs. Needless to say no one on the receiving end was inspired to hop on my Tradition Train. And it only lasted 2 Valentine’s. This year my youngest son (6.5) decided to make a paper boat out of the first letter I wrote his brother. Can’t you feel the sentimentality oozing? Clearly, no one was on board.
      So sad;)
      It’s a funny story though.

We are having the clear snot epidemic at our house, too. Started the morning by washing vomit covered sheets. Ah, the joy of toddlers who swallow so much snot they eventually barf it all up. ๐Ÿ™‚
Hope everyone gets to feeling better soon.

Ughh the snot-induced-barf! SO gross! The upside to that though is everytime they argue or complain about blowing their nose I can say “Do you want to swallow it and barf it up like you did that one time?” Then they blow like a hurricane!! Hope you guys heal quickly!

Glad to see you figured out the social media icons. I forgot that it was a pain to figure out. I should have given you the link for the directions that I used when I did it.

      Looks good!

Ok, that was painful Jen. Like really painful. And I don’t like how they look. They’re too big. I need to make them smaller. And somehow I delted the Instagram icon from the original download and I couldn’t redownload it. Ugh! Whatever, I can’t take it anymore tonight. I might try agin tomorrow. Or pay you $50 to do it for me;) Just kidding. This was seriously stressful!

It seems everyone is feeling much better today! Thank God! One went to a friend’s to play for the day and the other is a faucet of snot but happy as a clam. Sounds like a typical day in Momhood.

I love this. Even though you said you “have nothing to say” you still managed to write an awesome post. Blogging moms of the world? Take note. This is how it’s done.

      Lisa,
Yeah, I don’t know who I’m trying to kid when I say I have “nothing to say.” Clearly, words are not a problem for me. Heehee! THanks for stopping by and commenting and, as always, your sweet words.
Hope you had a happy heart day!
